John Mason graduated from Florida State University
with a degree in pipe organ performance in 2007.
John now serves as Organ Scholar and Assisting Music
Director at the Cathedral of St. Peter in St. Petersburg,
Florida under the direction of Edward Barbieri, Director of
Music. He is the first scholarship recipient in the Cathedral's
new Organ Scholarship Scheme, which provides a unique
opportunity to work alongside the Director of Music in creating
music at the highest level with unrivaled access to top
working professional musicians.
The Music Program at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter is
one of the most comprehensive, innovative and exciting in
the United States. There is some sort of music happening in
the Cathedral almost every day, combining instrumentalists,
choirs and solo singers in all types of sacred as well as
secular music. Since the Fall of 2007, the Cathedral has
been one of only four major churches and cathedrals across
the entire US nation to sing the daily office of Evensong
through the week, in addition to staging one of the most
ambitious Arts Program in this country. John conducts the
children's choirs at the cathedral and teaches children
and students aged five through middle school. He also
studied with Canon Benjamin Lane at The Cathedral Church
of St. Luke, Orlando.
